Golfers Elbow

Golfers Elbow is a common term used to describe pain on the inside of the elbow. The reality is that many people whom develop Golfers Elbow actually never play golf! The term refers to medial epicondylitis, or flexor tendinopathy of the common flexor tendon of the forearm, which attaches to the bone on the inside aspect of the elbow. It is characterised by pain when gripping objects, and can lead to weakness and loss of grip strength.

Tendinopathy is a gradual process where-by the repeated stress on the tendon is more than the body is able to repair, leading to a progressive change in tendon structure and eventually pain and loss of tensile strength. The treatment for this condition is in the form of specific strengthening exercises, aimed at gradually stimulating tendon repair and strength.
